Emetophobia (fear of vomiting)
Emetophobia is an intense fear of vomiting, or of seeing or hearing someone else be sick. It’s one of the most common phobias, yet many people feel alone with it or embarrassed to talk about it.
How it can affect daily life
avoiding certain foods, or eating very little
checking use-by dates, or washing hands a lot
avoiding school, travel, parties or busy places
worrying constantly about feeling sick, or about others being ill
feeling anxious about pregnancy, children or hospitals
For children, it can affect eating, school attendance and friendships. For adults, it can shape work, relationships and family life.
The good news: it’s treatable
CBT is the recommended approach for Emetophobia. Together, we’ll understand what keeps the fear going, gently reduce avoidance and checking, and build your confidence step by step, at a pace that feels manageable.
With younger children, I often work alongside parents, so you can support your child at home too.
